Choose the bagpipe bag size based on the player’s arm length, chest size, and comfort when holding the bag. The bag should fit snugly under the arm without strain and allow steady air control while playing.
A bagpipe bag is made by cutting leather or synthetic material into a bag shape and sewing the edges together. It is then sealed to stop air leaks and fitted with parts for the pipes and blowpipe.
Remove the bag from the pipes and turn it inside out, then wipe the inside with a clean cloth and mild, alcohol-based cleaner. Let it air dry fully, then turn it back and reassemble.
Keep the bagpipe bag fully airtight by tightening all valves and seals. Squeeze the bag steadily while blowing to maintain constant air pressure.
