About Scottish Kilt · Est. 2020Since 2020 we have cut, pleated and hand finished Highland dress one person at a time. Five thousand tartans on file. Fifty countries served. No stock sizing, not once.
Scottish Kilt is a made to order kiltmaker and supplier of Scottish dress, trading since 2020 and delivering to more than fifty countries.
Behind the website is a working team of kiltmakers, cutters, fabric buyers and fitting advisors. Our makers know how to carry a sett cleanly through a set of pleats, where the fall should break against the knee, and how to build a waistband that keeps its line after ten years of wear. When you write to us about sizing or tartan, one of them writes back.
We are not a dropshipper and we do not print on demand. We buy and hold our own cloth. We cut only once your measurements arrive. Our name goes on every garment we send out, so we make sure it is one we are willing to sign.
Est. 2020 · Scotland
Founded in 2020. Built the same way ever since.
We opened in a year when almost nothing was reliable. The problem we set out to solve was plain enough. Most kilts sold online were built to a size chart, and a size chart cannot know where a person actually carries their waist. So we built the business around measurements instead of guesses.
Every order was custom from the first week. Your waist, your length, your tartan, cut fresh for you. Word travelled quicker than we planned for. Orders reached four continents inside twelve months, and by 2022 we were sending kilts to more than thirty countries.
The scale has changed since then. The tartan library now runs past five thousand fabrics and the workshop has grown around it. The method has not moved an inch.
The one thing we refused to change was how the kilt actually gets made. Six years on, that still looks like the right call.

Eight yards of cloth. Pleated at the back, flat at the front, fastened at the waist. The idea is plain. Doing it correctly is not. The pleats have to be even. The sett has to run true through every one of them. The fall has to break at the right point on the knee.
Each kilt is hand pleated and hand stitched by makers who have spent years at it. Our cloth comes from mills that have supplied kiltmakers for generations. Heavy wool for traditional work, poly viscose where a kilt has to travel, denim and leather for utility styles. We choose cloth for the job it has to do, not for what it saves us.
We have grown every year since 2020 without touching the thing that made it work. The markers we are proudest of are not revenue figures. They are the points where the craft itself got better.
Opened with every kilt custom from the first order. No stock sizing, ever.
Word travelled quickly. Within twelve months we were shipping worldwide.
The workshop grew to keep pace, without changing how a kilt was made.
Clan, district and universal tartans added steadily as demand grew.
Tracked, insured shipping extended to cover more of the world.
Tartan Trousers and Oktoberfest Outfit joined the group, same workshop, same standard.
The library has grown past five thousand fabrics. The method hasn't moved an inch.
Scottish Kilt trades as a registered private limited company, Company No. 15047818, with a registered office in London, a US address in Wyoming, and a returns policy you can read before you buy.
We have traded without a break since 2020 and delivered to more than fifty countries. Our cloth is bought from established mills. Our kilts are hand pleated and hand stitched in our own workshop and never handed off to a bulk manufacturer. Checkout runs on Shopify with PCI compliant processing, and we hold no card details at any point.
If a garment does not fit because we got something wrong, we remake it at no charge. Returns run for 30 days. Those terms have not changed since our first order shipped.
Built to your waist and your length. Not to a size chart, and not to whatever happens to be in stock.
Tracked and insured on every route, packed so it arrives in the condition it left in.
If the fit is wrong on our side, we remake it free. Tell us within 7 days of delivery.
Ask about sizing or tartan and a member of the team answers you directly.
Plenty about this business has changed since 2020. These three have not, and they are the reason the rest of it works.
A kilt that does not fit is a kilt that lives in a wardrobe. Every decision we make about how a garment is built answers one question before any other. Will this fit the person who ordered it?
Lighter substitutes photograph beautifully. After a year of real wear the difference stops being subtle. We buy the same weights the mills have supplied to kiltmakers for generations.
We will not claim stock we do not hold or promise a date we cannot hit. In six years of doing this, nobody has ever thanked us for a polished answer over an honest one.
