Kilts

A kilt is a traditional Scottish garment resembling a skirt, made from wool tartan fabric and worn around the waist. It is a symbol of Scottish cultural heritage and is commonly worn at Highland Games, ceremonies, and cultural celebrations.

The modern Scottish kilt was developed in the early 1720s. It is commonly credited to Thomas Rawlinson, an English industrialist, who simplified earlier Highland clothing.

A kilt is worn by wrapping it around the waist, securing it with the straps and buckles, and ensuring the pleats sit at the back. It should fall to the middle of the knee and be paired with a sporran and kilt hose.

It should be worn with a dress shirt, jacket, kilt hose, Ghillie shoes, and a sporran for a traditional and complete look. Accessories such as a kilt pin, socks, and belt with buckle complete the authentic Scottish outfit.

It is made by cutting several yards of fabric, pleating it at the back, and securing it with straps and buckles at the waist. The pleats are sewn to align the tartan pattern neatly.

Start by measuring your waist by placing your finger at your belly button, this is where the kilt should sit. Then, stand up straight and measure around your hip. Finally, to find the right kilt length, kneel down and measure up to your belly button.
